Newsletter #6: FaunaDB, Microservice Catalogs

Welcome to Data Management Newsletter #6, where I curate interesting articles on data management and data protection for data practitioners and executives. For this week's newsletter, I want to share two posts I wrote, one about FaunaDB, a relatively new serverless database for user-facing applications, and the other about a new category of products called Microservice Catalogs.

FaunaDB: What is it, and should I consider it for my apps?

FaunaDB, also known as Fauna database, or simply Fauna, is a relatively new kind of a cloud database. It is server-less and distributed, has native support for a document-relational data model, and is packaged as a developer-friendly cloud API. It aims to address a number of friction points in today's developer experience, simplify data management, and accelerate development of user-facing applications in the process.

Do You Need a Microservice Catalog?

With the popularization of microservices in recent times, a new category of products called Microservice Catalogs is emerging, which aim to help developers, architects, and DevOps teams deal with microservice dependencies, configurations, upgrades, and incident response. They capture information about each microservice in the application's stack to create a catalog of sorts, which can then be used for monitoring and reporting purposes.

How useful will these products be? And what kind of hurdles are they likely to run into in terms of adoption? Read more below!
